The Ponkan mandarin is a vigorous grower and the most widely-grown mandarin in the world. At maturity it is a medium sized tree, with an upright form. The Ponkan mandarin is an alternate bearing tree, but this is compensated for by it’s large sized fruit. The fruit is oblate in shape, with few seeds and a loosely-adherent (puffy) rind, making it easy to peel. The flesh is orange in color, tender and juicy. The flavor is mild and tasty.
