A hybrid of Italian origin between a lemon and the sour orange. High tolerance to poor soil conditions. A vigorous, large tree with heavy crop load similar to the rough Lemon. Fruit quality on this rootstock can be poor, with the possible exception of lemons and fingerlimes. When used for orange and mandarin varieties the fruit have thicker, deeply pitted rinds, lower sugar, acid and juice content; the brix ratio may also change. The fruit of the Volkamer lemon are not unpalatable and can be used as a lower-acid substitute for a Lemon. For sale is one rootstock seedling, in its cone, as pictured.
